A Free Trial Ride at UCC consists of two parts - an FTP session (approx 35 mins) and a short video race (approx 10 mins). The trials are suitable for people of all levels of fitness and ability.
FTP - WHAT IS IT AND WHY IS IT IN A TRIAL?
FTP stands for Functional Threshold Power. It's an essential number which we need to know so we can make any future training super-effective.
Your FTP is the amount of power you can sustain on a bike. Our Trial Ride includes a 35-min FTP session where by you warm up then work as hard as you can for two 8-minute intervals. At the end of the session we do the calculations for you to come up with your FTP.
You then have a perfect starting place to base all your future training on. Our Training Camps and Drop-In sessions will help you improve and build your FTP, essentially helping you produce more power when you're riding.
Please take a look at our FTP page for further information.
